Exhibitions: Kuba Bakowski - Light One in Ether curated by Raffaele Gavarro

The show, which runs from June 20th through Sept. 29th (closed in August), curated by Raffaele Gavarro and sponsored by the Polish Institute of Rome, brings together a series of recent works by Bakowski, who regularly utilizes diverse languages and media, ranging from installation to sculpture, from video to photography.
"Light One In Ether" is an installation that gives title to this show: it is a t-shirt with the image of Yuri Gagarin imprinted on it which becomes inflated by a fan. The shirt is held open by a string which links it to a photograph of the artist attached to a wall.
"A Boy and His Dog" on the other hand, is a striking life-size sculpture of epoxy resin.
"Something Wrong With My Stomach" and "What's That?" are the titles of two videos that, together with the photo series, "Museum of Earth" and the small objects entitled, "Spaceship", "Explorer's Samplers" and "Other Explorative Devices",complete the complex and extraordinary journey of Bakowski's work.
Kuba Bakowski was born in 1971 in Poznan. He lives and works in Warsaw.
Among Bakowski's recent shows are: a one-man show at the Center of Contemporary Art, Ujazdowski Castle, Warsaw, 2006, participation in the group show "Obsolete" at the Zacheta National Gallery of Warsaw, 2005, "Instant Europe" at Villa Manin, Passariano, and "Passage d'Europe" at the Musee d'Art Moderne de Saint-Etienne.
"Light One In Ether" is accompanied by a catalogue with texts by the show's curator and Ania Jagiello of the Polish Insitute.
"Light One In Ether" is featured in the "99% Florence Contemporary" exposition circuit in conjunction with Pitti Immagine.

La mostra, a cura di Raffaele Gavarro e patrocinata dall'Istituto Polacco di Roma, inaugura i nuovi spazi espositivi della galleria. L'esibizione raccoglie una serie di opere recenti di Bakowski, che abitualmente utilizza diversi linguaggi e media che vanno dall'installazione alla scultura, dal video alla fotografia.
Light One in Ether è l'installazione che dà il titolo alla mostra. Da una foto appesa al muro che raffigura l'artista, parte un filo dalla sua mano collegato al volto di Yuri Gagarin stampato su di una t-shirt; per azione di un piccolo ventilatore questa si gonfia dandone un effetto quasi gravitazionale.
A Boy and His Dog è invece una scultura in resina epossidica in scala 1/1 dove lui con il suo cane passeggiano in un ipotetica uscita post-nucleare.
Something wrong with my stomach e What's that sono i titoli dei due video che insieme alle foto della serie Museum of Earth e ai piccoli oggetti Spaceship, Explorers samplers and other explorative devices, completano il complesso e straordinario percorso del lavoro di Bakowski.
Kuba Bakowski è nato nel 1971 a Poznan, dal 2003 vive e lavora a Varsavia.
Tra le mostre recenti segnaliamo le personali al Center of Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle di Varsavia del 2006, Aircraft Tests alla Zacheta National Gallery di Varsavia nel 2003, le collettive Beyond the Red Horizon al National Center of Contemporary Art di Mosca, "Instant Europe" a Villa Manin di Passariano e "Pasage d'Europe" al Museé d'Art Moderne de Saint-Etienne nel 2004, oltre alla partecipazione al Group show "Egoistic,Immoral,Obsolete" presso la Zacheta National Gallery nel 2005.
L'esposizione è accompagnata da un catalogo con un testo del Curatore e di Ania Jagiello dell'Istituto Polacco di Roma.
Light One in Ether è inserita nel circuito espositivo 99% Florence Contemporary evento organizzato da Pitti Immagine Discovery.
